Marissa M. Hoffman was born and raised in northeastern New Jersey. She graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University in 1996, with a B.S. in Communications and a minor in English. Thereafter, Marissa briefly worked for a publishing company before attending the University of Florida, College of Law. While in law school, Marissa served as a small group advisor and interned for various employers.
Ms. Hoffman graduated from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1999. Thereafter, she was a prosecutor for three years at the State Attorney's Office in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida, where she handled over 20 misdemeanor jury trials and 15 felony jury trials. Marissa also handled some county court appeals for the State Attorney's Office. Early in her career, Marissa joined the Florida Young Lawyers Division, Association of Florida Women Lawyers, and Inns of Court.
In January 2003, Marissa began working as a defense attorney, representing Employers and their workers' compensation Carriers, in all aspects of workers' compensation cases. Marissa has tried many final hearings before judges from Miami to Port St. Lucie, and Fort Myers to St. Petersburg. She has also successfully handled numerous workers' compensation appeals before the First District Court of Appeal. Marissa has lectured for employers and adjusters regarding Medicare Set-Aside proposals, temporary indemnity benefits, permanent total disability benefits, and the appellate process. Marissa has been licensed to practice law in the State of Florida since 2000. In 2007, she was admitted to the United States Court for the Southern District of Florida. In 2008, she was admitted to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. In 2011, Marissa became a certified Medicare Set-Aside Consultant.
On a personal note, Marissa met her husband while studying abroad in France during her second year of law school. She has two children. Hobbies include jogging and watching movies.
